About Rani Dhanya Kumari College
The need and
essence of commerce education for all-round growth and development of a society
does not require too much emphasis and explanation. Keeping this fact in view
and the initiative taken by some noted personalities and educationists led by
the Founder Principal Late J.R Sengupta, "Jiaganj College of
Commerce" was established on August 01, 1962. The college started its
functioning in the evening shift in the premises of the neighbouring Sripat
Singh College and imparted education for B. Com( Pass) course.
In 1973, the
college was shifted to the present premises. It was made possible by the
generous contribution extended by a benevolent local landlord Late Sripat Singh
Dugar and thus the college got a new independent set-up. The affiliating
University, University of Calcutta conferred affiliation up to Honours course
in B. Com (Accountancy). The college then started its activities as a Day
College and it was renamed as "Rani Dhanya Kumari College of
Commerce" in the name of Late Rani Dhanya Kumari, the wife of Late Sripat Singh
Dugar.
At present, a
small but decent campus is located in a pollution-free tranquil environment far
from the madding crowd with the lush green outfield covering a vast area of its
own.
To cater to
the growing need of the neighbouring areas the college authority opened B.A.
(Pass) course in Degree level with some non-traditionaJ subjects alofig with
the traditional subjects from 1995-96 academic session.
After opening
Arts stream the University of Calcutta urged to change the name of the college
and, accordingly, the college has been re-named as "Rani Dhanya Kumari
College".
As per
notification of the Govt. of West Bengal, dt . 26.04.99 the college has been
affiliated to the University of Kalyani from the academic session 1999-2000.
In order to
cope up with the ever-growing demand of large number of students of
neighbouring areas the college authority in the recent past, introduced Honours
courses in Political Science, History and Geography.
The college
has a modern office with computer facility, automatic photocopy machine and fax
machine. For better and effective management of the college office, it has been
divided into two sections-Accounts & Cash Section, and General Section.
The salient
feature of this institution lies in its healthy tradition of maintaining a
cordial relationship between the teacher and the taught and so also with the
office staff. The result of the college is highlysatisfactory .
Since its
inception the college has been blooming and flourishing in terms of
ever-growing enrolment strength and imparting quality education.

THE PRINCIPAL DESK
This NAAC
accredited degree college started its journey long back in the year 1962. With
time the college has grown in its desired destination. It was only in the year
2009 that I took over the charge of the Principal of this college and have been
trying to explore its strength in every possible dimension. I believe ‘Vision’
alone does not suffice to grow in the right direction, ‘Mission’ also plays a
pivotal role. Our ambition is not only to grow but grow in proportion. It is
true that the number of class rooms , teachers & other basic requirements do
not meet the present need of the students. We have not given up nor do we have
any shortage of willingness. I firmly hope our realistic and sincere endeavours
will succeed in putting this college on a much higher echelon which it
deserves. On behalf of the college I welcome all the visitors of this website
and seek effective suggestions for the development of the college.

Ajay Adhikari (Principal Rani Dhanya Kumari College)

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) OF RDK COLLEGE
NSS is a
social service scheme sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. Of India. The NSS unit of our
college started its onward journey in 1990. At present, this Scheme is being
implemented through the University of Kalyani. In 2001, the NSS unit II was
opened to involve girl-students. The goal of NSS is community service through
education and vice-versa. It gives the students opportunities to work with the
people and among the people. It, thus, develops social awareness and knowledge
of reality among them. It motivates both the students and the people of the
society in mitigating some acute social problems and in promoting welfare of
the society. Various camps and training programmes on Civil Defence , First Aid
and Seminars on Environment Awareness, Health Awareness and AIDS etc. are held
throughout the year. A National Level Camp was also organized in this college
in 1999, which involved participation of students from all over India. Motto of
NSS is 'Not Me But You'.
NATIONAL CADET CORPS OF RDK COLLEGE
The history of
college NCC organization is very old in its tradition. The college raised NCC
unit (i.e. 5/9 Coy.) in the year 1963 and since then it has been functioning
successfully. Students are allowed to get membership of the NCC unit in the
beginning of the session. Girl-students of the college are also eligible to get
membership of NCC through admission to open unit for the girls operating in our
neighbouring institution, Sripat Singh College. The college is, however, trying
to open a similar unit for the girl-students interested in joining NCC. Motto
of NCC is "Unity and Discipline". Cadets attending regular NCC
parades are eligible to receive training certificates issued by the college NCC
unit. The NCC cadets may also appear at the 'B' and 'C' certificate
examinations conducted by theMinistry of Defence , Government of India. In
addition to the regular training, NCC students have enough scope for
participating in various community development and other extension activities.
In fact, joining the NCC gives extra charm and status among the students
desirous of contributing something to the cause of our nation. Recently, both
Govt. of India and Govt. of West Bengal have given priority and advantage to
NCC 'B' and 'C' Certificate holders in various defence related recruitment
examinations. The cadets of the college are trying to encash this benefit as
maximum as possible. On an average about 10 cadets are getting job every year
with the help of NCC 'B' or 'C' certificate. This is no doubt an encouraging
trend indeed. Enrolment in NCC is done on the basis of Physical fitness test.
At present the College Unit Commander is Lieut. Dr. A. M. Mishra and Office
Assistant is'S . K. Karmakar (NCC 'C' certificate holder).
YOUTH PARLIAMENT COMPETITION OF RDK COLLEGE

Science, is the Teacher-in-Charge of the college unit of the Youth Parliament
Competition.
ANNUAL SOCIAL FUNCTION OF RDK COLLEGE
The Annual

help of the Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff. Professional and amateur a'rtists

makes this event a memorable one.

avail themselves of the Health Home facilities. A meagre fee is charged at the
time of admission against which students may avail themselves of medical
treatment, and other medical benefits and may also participate in various

time.

guiding students in finding or selecting career as per their merit and
potential a Career Counselling Cell has been opened by the College in the
academic session 2005-06. A special block in the college library room has been
allotted where various employment-oriented newspapers, weeklies, monthlies etc.
